Instagram For Photographers
How To Use Instagram For Photographers? - Whether you’re an aspiring wedding photographer or you own a wedding photography business, Instagram is a great way for photographers (of any kind) to go and display their work. A social media giant such as Instagram not only shows people what you and your work are about, but it will also help you to grow an online following, which will enhance your business if you link your web page in your bio. This is a great way to increase website traffic, you’ve got to direct people who are using these social media giants to your own place of interest. Nowadays, everything is online, so, you’ve got to adapt with the times and move your work online too! You should view your Instagram page as a sort of online portfolio of your work, it’s the place where only your best images should be shown and that will help you virtually put your best foot forward. Instagram for photographers is the perfect way to get yourself and your work out there, so stay tuned as we discuss the things that you need to think about (image quality wise) before sharing your work online...
#1. Exposure - This one shouldn’t be a surprise to you if you know your craft or if you’ve visited us before here at Weddit and have read numerous blog articles of ours, but exposure is the foundation to clear photography. As we’ve mentioned before in previous articles, exposure essentially means the amount of light that’s present in an image. For you to achieve good quality exposure throughout your photographs, we think that you need to understand how it works before you can truly master it, so let us explain... Have you ever heard of the exposure triangle? The exposure triangle shows how aperture, shutter speed and ISO work together to achieve exposure. This rule has three points like a triangle, which is why it has been given this name. Click the link above to learn about the logic behind the exposure triangle! But anyway, bringing this back around to the topic at hand, it’s a bit of an unspoken rule on Instagram that quality photographs with good exposure gain good exposure on Instagram. See what we did there? Clever right?! But basically, what we’re trying to say is that exposure given in the right amount can take a photo from good to great and an Instagram page full of high-quality images is bound to attract the attention for your business that you’re looking for.
#2. Natural Lighting – Our first point brings us nicely onto this second one. Natural lighting is mainly what wedding photographers use to capture their images and these are the photographs that you should upload onto your business page on the gram. Most of your potential clients will be looking through those images you’ve shared, thinking I want something just like that! So, make sure you put your proudest shots out there for people to admire, alongside the traditional wedding photographs that every ceremony will entail. Afterall, your client needs to know what kind of quality of work they can expect from you, so make sure the photographs you choose to share are a true representative of your work and remember to use natural lighting as much as possible for the most Instagramable images!
#3. Consider The Weather - That said, getting natural lighting can be tricky, especially if you live in places and seasons with limited hours of sunshine. So look at the weather app beforehand and schedule your photo shoot accordingly so you can make use of natural day light in your photographs, because the last thing that you’ll want is a light and bubbly feed, only to be ruined by a dim photograph and we can’t imagine that your client will be too happy to see their photo in comparison with your others anyway, so the lesson is, always plan ahead and have a backup plan if the weather isn’t on your side. You’re going to have to produce amazing images either way – no excuses.
#4. Invest In The Right Equipment – Of course none of the previously mentioned points would matter if you don’t have the right equipment on your side. Photography equipment can be really expensive, especially the lenses and other accessories can add up very quickly. So before investing in it, make sure to do a thorough research online so you can save yourself a ton of money as well as time and headache. www.bhphotovideo.com is a site that many photographers use to purchase their equipment, so we think that this will be a good place for you to start your research! Once you’ve purchased your equipment, it’s a good idea for you to practice with it a fair amount before taking it on any gigs with you. Understand your equipment inside and out before charging anyone for your services with it. This is one of our top tips when talking about using Instagram for photographers.
#5. Have A Theme – Now admittedly all of the images that you take won’t follow one particular theme, but the ones that you display on Instagram could be one of the same themes e.g. candid photography, documentary photography, monochrome photography e.c.t Our Instagram page follows a theme, but we’ve been pretty diverse about it which is a clever approach, as it allows us to share any of the images we see fit and it all pops into our page nicely without it looking messy and scrambled. Sounds ideal right? Our technique is to separate our images with inspirational quotes written about photography or by photographers. Check out our page @weddit.io.
